When
Ed Lorraine was President of Cameron Iron Works in Houston, Texas, he was
asked from time to time by the workers for a loan of 5 or 10 dollars to
tide them over until payday. This began to happen more and more
often, and Ed Lorraine directed Joe Collet in the Cameron accounting
department to lend money and to handle the lending process.
Collet
tracked all the loans and on payday, collected payments including a small
amount of interest. That process continued until September 1948 when
the employees of Cameron Iron Works formed a credit union for its
employees and began formally providing financial services.
In the 55 years since the credit union was established,
Cameron Credit Union
expanded and grew to serve its members. However, the standard of
hard work set by the founders remains at
Cameron Credit Union
today.
Since becoming
community chartered in August, 2003, we have extended our membership to
include people living, working or attending school in the Northwest
Houston area. Our intent in becoming TexasOne Community Credit Union
is to better reflect who we are. The name TexasOne Community Credit
Union was chosen by the staff and board of directors of Cameron Credit
Union. We chose this name to reflect our strong past and to
represent our solid future as a community credit union. Today,
Texasone community
Credit Union has more than 20,000 members, and
texasone community Credit
Union is continually adding products
and services to
better serve the members. We now offer our members online access to
their account balances, an automated telephone account management system,
online loan applications, and many other specialized services.
TexasOne Community Credit Union is a non-profit
institution owned by and in business to serve its members.
